All About Hardwood Floors

Hardwood flooring is the first thing you notice when you walk into a room. Having the right flooring can make or break your interior design. Why go anywhere else for hardwood floors? We have it all in the article below. We are here to help you make the best decisions for your floors.

For someone who is new to the world of hardwood floors it can be pretty difficult to determine just what your floors are supposed to look like as the years pass. Are they supposed to get dull, is that just something that happens to all wood floors? Do I have to live with these scratches? These kinds of questions and problems are all too common and the answer to both is a simple and profound NO!

Before you can decide on a course of action you need to take a good long look at your floors to see if they really are in need of some work.

Here are some tips to help you decide what you need to do as far as your hardwood floors:

Look at the finish

Is the finish on your floors still there? Check to see if it is still hidden just under some dirt and grime or if it has actually been worn off. Start with cleaning the floor with a neutral pH cleaner and see what all comes off. If it still looks a little wrong then get a tsp of water. Drop a few drops here and there in both high traffic areas and non high traffic areas. If the water soaks in immediately then you have a problem and the finish is indeed worn right off. If it takes a few minutes then the finish is probably still there a bit but not enough. What you want is for the water to be beading on top of the wood and not soaking in a tall, that is what would happen if your floor is still finished and sealed well.

Look at the wood itself

Look past the finish and see if your hardwood floors are actually damaged. This can happen relatively easy once the finish is worn off. Even hardwood is not really that hard when things are getting dragged across it. If there are big scores in the wood or even big scratches you may have to replace that section of the floors. You don't want to refinish it until you have done this.
